Hydra School Projects

Every year, curator Dimitris Antonitsis presents the Hydra School Projects (HSP) at the Paleo Gymnasio, or “old school,” on Lignou Street, a historic building that played an important role during the Greek revolution.

Background of the Hydra School Projects

Established in 2000 by Greek artist and curator Dimitrios Antonitsis, the Hydra School Project is a nonprofit foundation that organizes exhibitions and supports publications that explore the relationship between contemporary art and culture. The venture is conceived as a means of introducing young and upcoming artists as well as more established ones to both a Greek and an international audience.

Prominent artists who have exhibited at the HSP, often for the first time in Greece, include Brice Marden, Helen Marden, Robert Wilson, Allan McCollum, Michael Craig-Martin, Francesco Vezzoli, Cosima von Bonin, Nate Lowman, Hanna Liden, Kim Sooja, Candida Hoefer, Tony Oursler, and Aaron Young.

The Hydra School Project is funded primarily by the DEMERGON-Daskalopoulos Foundation for Culture and Development.
