From €295/night Sunset and sea views, private terraces andcourtyards, WiFi, maid service
The Stone House is a lovingly restored 18th-century aristocratic mansion set atop a hillside immediately overlooking the quaint Hydra harbor. It has fabulous views to the sea, village, and mountains. A hand-hewn stone wall encloses the main house, a guest cottage, and a series of gardens and terraces. Decorated with original artwork and carefully furnished with antiques and cozy chairs, this private compound is perfect for a couple’s romantic getaway or a family’s summer vacation.
With three bedrooms and two and a half baths, the property comfortably sleeps seven, or eight if you request our baby crib. The main house contains a living room, dining room, kitchen, master bedroom and bathroom, and guest bedroom and bathroom. It is equipped with all the implements for entertaining—and both the indoor and outdoor dining tables seat eight to ten. The grand master bedroom and its private balcony boast exquisite views in all directions.
The guest cottage has a charming brass bed and beautiful corner fireplace. A half-bath lies just steps away. On its roof, a wonderful terrace, outfitted with a marble dining table, provides excellent views as well. There’s also an outdoor shower under a scarlet bougainvillea.
The compound is very central: a short walk down one set of the island’s many cobblestone staircases places you in the heart of the port. A path through a pine grove brings you to swimming coves.
The Stone House is owned by a family that has been spending time on Hydra for the past four decades. Visitors are hosted by our on-island concierge, who will introduce you to the house and share her knowledge of the sights and secrets of Hydra. Although you will have complete privacy during your stay, assistance or advice will only be a phone call away.
Maid service is also included one time per week.
Some of the Stone House amenities include wireless internet access, iPod speaker dock, washer and dryer, and three fireplaces.
Hydra cradles a bustling harbor packed with shops, restaurants, and quayside cafes perfect for sipping a leisurely cappuccino and people watching. Tiny cobblestone lanes and winding limestone staircases crisscross the island’s villages—there are no cars or scooters! Donkeys and carts provide the island’s only land transportation.
Long known as a haven for a rich blend of jetsetters, artists, and writers, Hydra also preserves a traditional, quaint way of life that has become increasingly hard to find in Greece’s more heavily touristed islands. The entire island has been preserved as a national monument and offers unspoiled swimming coves, walking trails, and serenity.
