Pavlos Samios, “The Sea Everywhere”
Although the sea figures prominently in his work, Pavlos Samios makes it the protagonist for the first time in this new exhibition, eloquently titled “The Sea Everywhere,” which opens at Hydra’s Historical Archive and Museum on June 13. Indeed, the sea is omnipresent in the work of the distinguished Greek painter, not only because of the island of his origin but also because of the multiple seaside destinations that have crossed his heart.
“The sea is included in all our lives,” the artist notes Pavlos Samios, indicating that the water element makes its presence felt in his work from his first creation until today. The sea is often in his work Samian, either in the background or as an outline in his works. … So even when indulging in his favorite subjects—when painting women, still lives, cafes, couples, night scenery, home interiors—he always includes an open window one a glimpse of the sea.
In the works included in this exhibition at the Historical Archives Museum of Hydra, the sea is present, even when it isn’t. Otherwise, the exhibition features abstract paintings of islands, holiday memories, and the wonderful women and dragons of Pavos Samios, as well as lazy cafes and still lifes.
