St. Athanasios on Vigla HillChurches & Monasteries / See & Do / Sights
Vigla Hill, west of Hydra Harbor, rises 89 meters above sea level. In the early 20th century, it served as home to a sentinel, who kept watch for incoming boats and alerted the inhabitants of their arrival. The hill also houses the small church of St. Athanasios (the Plakeza), an old parish church with a metal spire (erected in 1933). Although the church itself is closed, the panoramic views of Hydra Town and Kamini are splendid.
