Tom Powell started working as a carpenter, then sailed the world until he arrived in Hydra in 2008, actually coming back to his roots as all his family had lived on the island in the 1970s and 1980s. Tom paints landscapes, still-lifes, and portraits. He is inspired by the Greek light, the contrasting shadows. There is a subtle balance in his painting between abstract and figurative, which results in a definite, authentic style, combined with a search for the perfect harmony in his composition.
His works are generally on view at the Hydra Trading Company & Hydra Gallery, run by Tom’s mother, Veronique Powell.
