Recreation on Hydra Greece

The Greek island of Hydra doesn’t provide much by way of structured recreational activities. You’ll find no water slides or golf courses or bike paths. That being said, there’s plenty to do for both active types and those looking to relax. Residents and visitors tend to fill their days swimming, lounging on the beach, exploring the town’s lovely streets and admiring the houses, taking in an art exhibit, browsing through the shops along the Port, strolling along the coast or hiking in the hills, and hanging out in the cafes and tavernas. In summer, they might take in a movie at the local open-air cinema, before a late dinner at one of Hydra’s many, varied restaurants, then a nightcap (or two) at one of the cafe bars along the harbor. Those interested in history or architecture will find plenty of sights to see.

Hydra is also a wonderful hub for side trips to other islands and excursions to the mainland. For those who’d like to escape the Rock for a gentle, relaxing afternoon, a private boat picnic or trip around the island can be just the ticket.
