Villa Jason. Hydra, Greece. Photo by Cathy CunliffeHighlights: stunning views of the Saronic, Peloponnese, and Hydra Town, charming, traditional ambiance

Located above Hydra Harbor, with stunning sea views over the port across to the Peloponnese, this charming traditional Hydriot home is close to Hydra’s restaurants, cafes, and shops and also provides easy access to the slower-paced neighboring village of Kamini, with its tavernas and quieter swimming spots. Sleeping up to five people in two bedrooms, Villa Jason is idea for families or small groups traveling together.

As you enter the property, stairs lead to two bedrooms in separate buildings, joined by a small arch. The master bedroom has a double bed and en-suite bathroom; the second bedroom has a double bed as well as a single bed suitable for children.

Continuing up the outside stairs, guests will arrive at a large terrace on the left, divided into two sections with traditional built-in sitting and eating areas and fabulous views of Hydra Town, the surrounding mountains and monasteries, the Port, the Saronic, and the Peloponnese.

On this level, above the master bedroom, guests will find the fully equipped yet traditional kitchen, which also overlooks the sea. There is also an adjacent bathroom with a shower. Steps just outside lead to a sun terrace on the roof above the kitchen.

Passing through an archway, guests enter a traditional “virani-style” livingroom/dining area with wooden floors and ceilings and a working fireplace for warmth in the winter months. The windows gaze out on the same stunning views.

As reaching the house does entail negotiating Hydra’s occasionally steep steps, the house is not recommended for the elderly, those with mobility issues, or families with children in strollers. The nearest shop for provisions is Kamini’s Four Corners market, which is a three minute walk away.
